History of VFW
The VFW building is eye-catching in its historic simplicity at the heart of downtown. First a saloon at the turn of the century, then a popular destination for Ely’s Slovenian immigrants as Jugoslav National Home and finally a Post in 1956 for the veterans in Ely, the building has seen many changes and diverse uses. Now the site of Northern Grounds coffee & wine bar, the lower half of the building has come to life, renewed with the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans and local chatter.
